Shelby County Sheriff issues warning about ‘celebratory gunfire’ ahead of Fourth of July

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Explosions will fill Shelby County skies this Friday as people celebrate the Fourth of July, but the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office expressed concerns that not all of those loud bangs will come from fireworks.

Wednesday, Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner released a message about the importance of preventing “celebratory gunfire.”

“As the sheriff of Shelby County, I’d like to strongly remind you about the importance of not engaging in celebratory gunfire,” Bonner said in a video posted to social media. “Instead, we encourage you to find alternative ways to celebrate. That could be attending community fireworks displays, family-friendly events, or parades.”…
