Former Southaven officer gets 10 years for role in auto theft ring

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former Southaven, Mississippi police officer was sentenced Monday to 10 years in state prison plus a $10,000 fine for his role in an auto theft ring.

Tony Herring Jr. pleaded guilty in March to one count of accessory after the fact to commit auto theft. Herring was indicted and arrested in 2024.

Herring allegedly provided information to people who were stealing cars, serving as somewhat of a “lookout,” the district attorney said at the time.
