MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis firefighter resigned after the city council gave them a 3% raise when the firefighter’s union said they had an agreement with the city for 5%.
“Over my nearly decade-long career, I have watched the city government renege on at least three key promises: our pension, retiree benefits, and a 5% raise that was supposed to take effect in July of 2025. These ‘three strikes’ have led me to conclude that I can no longer trust the city to uphold its word. It is for this reason that I have chosen to resign,” the firefighter wrote in a letter shared by the union.
“At the request of a member who recently resigned, we sent his letter to Mayor Paul Young and the Memphis City Council,” the union added when they posted the letter. “We hope that they take the time to read it. Better yet, hope they take the time to care and uphold their word.”…
