Memphis attorney talks about the charges Austin Drummond is facing and what could happen next

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The 28-year-old suspect in the July 29, 2025, quadruple murder in Lake County, Tenn., Austin Drummond, is now in custody after a week-long manhunt. Memphis attorney Claiborne Ferguson said that Drummond could face serious charges, and with serious charges come serious penalties, including the death penalty. “About eight death penalties,” said Ferguson.

Ferguson said that the next 72 hours are crucial because Drummond will likely face a judge for the first time over that period.

When asked what to expect from Drummond’s first court appearance, Ferguson said, “They would check to see if he has an attorney, or if he needs an attorney appointed. The district attorney would probably let the court know how they plan to proceed with the charges.”…
