MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who escaped from the DeSoto County courthouse last year has pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and is being sentenced to 55 years.
A judge sentenced Joshua Zimmerman to 50 years for attempted murder as a habitual offender and an additional five years for escaping custody.
“Those will run together so you can call it 55, you can call it 50, however you want essentially they will run concurrently,” said DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton.

On June 14, Zimmerman escaped from the DeSoto County courthouse after being scheduled for a hearing in a case where he was facing an attempted first-degree murder to a Southaven man who hired him to work at his house.
