The streets of Memphis have experienced a significant shift in recent weeks, following an intensive crackdown on gang violence by the U.S. Marshals Service. Operation Memphis Streets, a two-week initiative led by the USMS Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, saw the arrest of 141 individuals, wanted for a range of violent crimes, including homicide, aggravated assault, and sex-related offenses, as reported by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Conducted from July 14 through July 25, the operation assembled six teams, which included officers deputized as Special Deputy Marshals. This concerted effort resulted in the clearing of 163 arrest warrants, with 14 of those apprehended wanted for homicide – showing a clear intent to curb the surge of violent crime in Memphis. Notably, of the individuals taken into custody, 31 were identified as known or suspected gang members.
The arsenal recovered during the arrests was modest but troubling, with five firearms seized, including three that were stolen. High-profile captures included Victor Peeler, faced with 12 counts of attempted murder for shootings aimed at MPD officers on July 4th. Other notable arrests were Talia Jones in Minneapolis, on charges of facilitation of first-degree murder, and locally caught Travis Boyd, with a first-degree murder warrant out of West Memphis, AR. Furthermore, Derrion Taylor was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder; his alleged homicide victim was 93 years old…
