Brothers fall through ceiling, hold neighbors hostage: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two brothers are accused of escaping police through their attic, then falling through their neighbor’s ceiling and holding their neighbors hostage.

Anthony Gaines and Antwon Gaines, both 19, have been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, possessing a firearm during commission/attempt to commit dangerous felony, and possession of marijuana.

On Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., investigators conducted a warrant in the 5200 block of Flowering Peach Drive. Officers attempted to arrest the brothers on an aggravated assault charge.

When detectives made contact, they saw Antwon and Anthony run upstairs into the attic and escape to their neighbor’s attic.
