Suspected Thief Eludes Capture After Shopper’s Cash Stolen at Memphis Macy’s, Police Seek Tips

On a typical Wednesday evening, what was supposed to be a routine shopping trip at Macy’s turned into a moment of distress when, according to the Memphis Police Department, a theft occurred from 2700 North Germantown Parkway. The incident, which took place on August 20, 2025, was reported after a man, in the midst of trying on clothes, left his wallet along with a considerable amount of cash in his pants pocket and inadvertently stepped out of the dressing room.

Upon his return, the victim noticed his belongings had been tampered with; the wallet and its contents vanished. It was then that he made eye contact with a suspect, prompting a brief and unexpected chase that ended with the suspect surrendering the wallet, but not before the cash was spirited away. The suspect, as noted, was described as a Black male, around 5 feet 5 inches in height, and of a thin stature. His apparel consisted of a tri-colored shirt and blue jeans, his footwear black with a defining white trim.

Memphis Police have since made a call to action for anyone with details regarding the incident to step forward. They urge that tips be directed to Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH (2274).
