Memphis Resident Falls Victim to Facebook Marketplace Theft, Police Seek Suspect

In a recently reported incident, the Memphis Police were called to the scene of a theft on the 2600 block of Colonial Towers Drive. The event unfolded on Wednesday morning when a local resident became the victim of a fraudulent buyer on Facebook Marketplace. According to the Memphis Police Department’s news release, the seller was arranging to sell items to a person using the name Robert Cage. The suspect was said to have taken the items and left without rendering payment.

The meeting had been arranged online, with the expectation of a straightforward transaction. It turned into a case of theft when the suspect, after arriving at the victim’s residence and assessing the goods, decided to take off with them under the pretense of a deal. The individual identified as Robert Cage left the scene in his car, promptly disappearing with the items. The theft took place at approximately 10:52 a.m. on August 20, raising concerns about the safety of online marketplace transactions.

The Memphis Police are actively seeking any information that would lead to the whereabouts of the suspect or the recovery of the stolen items. To encourage local community involvement in resolving the crime, the police have reached out to anyone who might have relevant information.
