Study shows Memphis has highest pedestrian fatality rate of any U.S. city

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A recent study from insurance research company Value Penguin shows Memphis has the highest pedestrian fatality rate out of the 50 most populated American cities.

The findings were shared last Monday, compiling data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) datasets from 2019 to 2023.

The study counted 293 pedestrian fatalities in Memphis in that five-year span, more than double the number of deaths in Louisville, Kentucky, a city with a similar population size and density…
