OXFORD – A late-night event at Booth’s Barbeque and Yard on South Lamar Boulevard escalated into a chaotic scene early Sunday, Aug. 31, as police responded to large crowds, traffic congestion, and gunfire.
The Oxford Police Department reported that at the height of the disturbance, about 20 officers were needed to control traffic, pedestrians, and crowd safety in the area. Officers made 42 traffic stops and recovered more than 10 firearms during the incident.
At 12:47 a.m., shots were fired outside the business. No one was injured, and police quickly secured the scene. Antwan Terrell Tompkins, 19, of Tupelo, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His bond will be set by the Municipal Court Judge…
