Memphis mayor, police chief face questions on curbing youth violence at town hall

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Days after hundreds ran to safety when shots echoed through Beale Street, a North Memphis community spoke out about their concerns. Blight and crime were on the top of their minds.

“I want to talk about how these kids are fearing for their lives in school,” said one concerned community member and parent. “My baby [is] standing outside Manassas High School when kids are confronting him, telling him to get down or lay down.”

The Hollywood Community Center was packed Wednesday with residents wanting solutions to crime involving teens and young adults.
