‘We don’t want federal troops here’: Push for National Guard in Memphis sparks debate among state leaders

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — While Memphis city leaders point to a downward trend in crime, the idea of sending more National Guard troops to the Bluff City is gaining traction across Tennessee.

Gov. Bill Lee told reporters Wednesday, Sept. 3, that “everything is possible, and nothing is off the table,” when asked about federal military involvement. The Trump administration has already announced plans to send troops to Chicago and Baltimore, with guardsmen currently deployed in Washington.
