Indicted nonprofit leader no longer listed on crime commission’s website for board of directors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Vinessa Brown no longer appeared on the Memphis Shelby County Crime Commission’s website Friday morning.

The website previously listed her among the commission’s board of directors. She served the commission as secretary.

That development came a week after Brown and her husband, DeAndre Brown, who worked as director of the Shelby County Office of Re-entry, were indicted on 12 counts related to alleged misuse of more than $625,000. The Tennessee Comptroller’s office alleged that the Browns used that money to pay for a trip to Jamaica, Grizzlies’ tickets, and to give themselves $285K in improper compensation from government grants, among other expenses…
