Memphis parents graduate from nurturing parent program

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Juvenile Court and Porter-Leath are hoping for safer, healthier homes for children after celebrating their first-ever nurturing parent program graduation on Tuesday.

The graduation was for parents who completed the 12-week class intended to break generational cycles and strengthen families.

Some parents were mandated to be there, others volunteered to gain access to Porter-Leath professionals like class teacher Stephanie Hurd.

“We came in as strangers and left as a family, but it’s not over, but for this cohort, they are done and we are so proud of them, the growth that they have experienced, the way that they have stretched themselves, it’s amazing to see,” said Class Teacher Stephanie Hurd.
