‘Miracle baby’ born at 1 pound, finally home after nearly a year in the hospital

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – A Mid-South family is finally living the moment they prayed for: bringing home their “miracle baby” after nearly a year in the hospital.

Gabriel James Golden, born Sept. 30, 2024, at just 22 weeks gestation, went home Monday to Olive Branch, Miss., with his parents, Garreth and Caroline Golden, after spending 350 days in neonatal intensive care units. Once weighing just 1 pound, 1 ounce, and measuring 11 inches long, Gabriel now tips the scales at 16 pounds.

Caroline Golden said her pregnancy turned high risk when she began bleeding at 14 weeks. She was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma, which later caused her water to break at 18 weeks. She was admitted to a Jackson, Tenn., hospital at 22 weeks and delivered Gabriel by emergency cesarean section just five days later…
