Central High band brings kazoos to game after they say they weren’t allowed to play

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis’s Central High School and district speak out after Central’s band says they were told they couldn’t play at a varsity game this past Friday in Brighton.

We spoke with parents and students from Central High on and off camera, and each person says this all started after learning Central High’s band could not perform, saying it would be a distraction because they were too loud.

Instead, the band played kazoos as drummers played on metal benches.

“It was explained that, they didn’t want us to play at first, so because of that, we weren’t going to be playing on our instruments; we were going to be playing on our kazoos,” said LaDarius Brown, ninth grader, who plays baritone…
