Shelby County Health Department to host free pet vaccination clinic in October

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Pet owners who have been meaning to get their animals vaccinated may now have the perfect opportunity in October.

Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) officials will host a free pet vaccination clinic Saturday, Oct. 4, for dogs and cats at Southland Mall. The event will provide free, drive-thru rabies and parvovirus vaccinations and microchips while supplies last.

“Rabies is a serious health threat. Unvaccinated pets can be exposed to rabies when they encounter a wild animal with the virus. If they develop rabies, they may cause human illness. Pet vaccination protects humans as well as our pets,” Dr. Bruce Randolph, interim SCHD director-health officer, said. “Protecting pets against rabies also protects our children, friends, and neighbors from this deadly virus.”…
