MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man accused of shooting his girlfriend in front of her five children in June 2020 has been arrested.
According to court documents, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-old Rodney McAtee on Monday after he was on the run for more than five years. During that time, the family of the victim, Brittany Starks, says they have been demanding justice. They spoke only with FOX13 about the arrest Tuesday.
“Since we found out about it, everyone has been excited,” said Deborah Hall-Burrows, Starks’ aunt. “I spoke to Brittany personally and she was just so, she’s like, ‘Finally, finally, finally!'”
Starks was shot in the chest inside an apartment on North Merton Street in Hollywood. She survived, but her family says she endured a long recovery and is still dealing with trauma from the violence. Her aunt says Starks and her five children have also spent the past five years afraid, because they didn’t know where McAtee was or what he might do next…
