MPD employee relieved of duty during investigation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department has relieved a civilian employee of duty after he was arrested and charged last month with theft of property of $10,000-$60,000.

MPD said the case against Bevin Bell, 48, was presented to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and later dismissed. However, an internal investigation remains ongoing.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Memphis Mortuary Transport claimed it paid Bell $29,060 for a 2019 Chevy Express van and $18,000 for a 2015 Cadillac XH (Hearse), but never received the title or the vehicles.
