This Day in History: Chickasaw Nation signs treaty that reshapes the map of West Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On this day in 1818, a major deal reshaped the map of West Tennessee.

The Chickasaw Nation signed a treaty with the U.S. government, giving up the land that would eventually become Memphis and much of western Tennessee.

In exchange, the Chickasaw people received compensation for their land, but the agreement also forced many of them from their homes…
