Whataburger to donate sales proceeds to high school band after $40K embezzling scheme

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) – A popular restaurant chain is supporting the Southaven High School Band after an embezzling scheme took nearly $40,000 from the program.

Michael Tshiyoyi with Whataburger says the location at 6829 Getwell Road in Southaven will donate 20% of all sales made from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to the Southaven High School Band Boosters “to help replace what was lost.”

This comes after approximately $39,161 was embezzled from the band booster club’s proceeds and deposited into one of the fundraising leader’s personal bank accounts, according to the Southaven Police Department.
