Shelter support for Whitehaven Travelodge up in the air, leaving 140 people nowhere to go

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Whitehaven hotel that has served as temporary housing for dozens of families may have to end that service very soon, leaving nearly 140 tennants, including 55 children, without a place to stay.

According to the Whitehaven Travelodge general manager, who asked not to be named, the hotel may have to stop serving the unhoused on Friday because the business is struggling to pay its electric bill and staff wages. The remaining tennants at the hotel, however, are permitted to stay.

Management said unhoused residents were initially expected to leave Monday, but the move-out was able to be pushed to Wednesday, before being extended until Friday…
