12-year sentence recommended for man in deadly firefighter wreck

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A driver who hit a fire truck and killed a Memphis firefighter while intoxicated in 2022 will be sentenced to 12 years in a plea deal announced by the district attorney’s office.

Maurice Yarbrough was allegedly intoxicated on Aug. 10, 2022, when he ran a red light and struck a fire truck at Crump and Danny Thomas.

The crash killed 32-year fire department veteran David Pleasant and injured three others.
