MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tennessee and Arkansas officials have unveiled the new name for the future I-55 bridge across the Mississippi River Friday, which will be called “Kings’ Crossing.”
The name honors three influential figures in Memphis history: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Elvis Presley, and B.B. King. The decision was made by the Tennessee General Assembly and the Arkansas Highway Commission to celebrate the legacies of these iconic individuals.
“Kings’ Crossing is more than just a piece of infrastructure; it is a symbol of our collective history, heritage, and the enduring spirit of unity that defines this region,” said TDOT Commissioner Will Reid. “Naming this bridge in honor of these gentlemen pays tribute to their extraordinary legacies – individuals who transcended barriers, fostered cultural exchange, and used their talents to build bridges between people.”
The new bridge is part of a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure, with nearly $400 million in funding coming from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, along with additional contributions from Tennessee and Arkansas state funds…
