2 arrested, charged in chop shop operation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officers investigating a complaint Thursday morning discovered an illegal chop shop in a Frayser neighborhood.

The MPD Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF), working alongside Code Enforcement, investigated a complaint in the 1900 block of Pinedale Ave., where investigators found stolen vehicles, vehicle parts, transmissions, motors, and tools used to dismantle cars for profit.

Kevin Carter, 36, and 63-year-old Ernest Dandridge were both arrested and charged with Theft of Property to wit: Auto $10,000-$60,000 (5X), Altering/Changing Engine/Serial Number Fraudulently, Prohibited Operation/Ownership of a Chop Shop, and Theft of Property $1,000 or less to wit: License Plate.

Investigators recovered a stolen 2018 Dodge Charger, a 2019 Dodge Challenger, and a Chevrolet Camaro with the transmission removed, fitted with a Corvette engine and wheels. They also seized items used to run the chop shop, including tools, car dollies, a car hauler, and a utility trailer…
