Mid-South families could see delay or reduction in food assistance in less than a week

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Time is running out for Congress to pass a spending plan to reopen the government before millions of people across the country lose the resources they need to put food on their tables. One in four Shelby County residents depends on SNAP benefits, according to state data.

That data does not include Memphians who have recently been affected by the ongoing government shutdown. Now, local organizations are expecting a possible increase in the number of families that need help.
