Man shot after jumping out of ex’s bedroom closet with rifle: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a man who jumped out of his ex-girlfriend’s closet with an AR-style rifle while she was sleeping was shot during a struggle over the weapon.

Corwyn Winfield was not seriously hurt but was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, eight counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, aggravated child abuse, aggravated burglary, domestic assault, and employment of a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.

The shooting happened Saturday night at a home in the 3200 block of Knightsbridge Circle in Hickory Hill.

Winfield’s former girlfriend said she was asleep in her bed with her current boyfriend and her five-year-old child when they were awakened by the sound of Winfield emerging from the bedroom closet…
