Memphis City Councilman J.B Smiley and state Rep. G.A. Hardaway shared an update on their lawsuit against the governor’s deployment of National Guard troops in Memphis.
“Our lawsuit is specifically about the illegal deployment of the National Guard into our community,” not about the larger Memphis Safe Task Force, Smiley said.
If successful, the lawsuit would require the Guard to immediately leave the city. Smiley said the Tennessee Constitution clearly states the governor doesn’t have the authority to deploy the troops…
