Midtown woman accused of trying to set landlord on fire

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Midtown woman was charged with reckless endangerment after allegedly trying to set her landlord on fire.

The incident occurred in September of 2024 in the 200 block of North Bellevue Boulevard, but Chrystal Criswell, 48, was just booked into the Shelby County Jail this week.

According to police, Criswell has been renting the property on Bellevue.

The landlord said he was notified by another tenant that Criswell was vandalizing the property, and when he arrived, saw the damage and called police.

He stated that was when Criswell took a glass of gasoline and threw it on him.

The victim said the gasoline hit him in the face and soaked his shirt. He said Criswell had a lighter in her hand, so he began to create distance between Criswell and himself. He said he thought he was going to be set on fire…
