MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner says hundreds of inmates in the jail at 201 Poplar will be moved to other facilities due to overcrowding issues.
Bonner told WREG on Wednesday he has signed a contract for 300 inmates at 201 to be housed in other state facilities in western and middle Tennessee.

“We finally worked it out with the state where they would take 300 of our pre-trial inmates,” Bonner said. “Our problem is and this is what many people don’t realize, we are a pre-trial facility, so we can’t put pre-trial inmates with convicted inmates. That’s been a problem over the last few weeks about moving prisoners to various locations.”
He also said he’d signed a contract for 150 inmates to be moved to another facility in Shelby County, though he declined to say where yet for security reasons…
