Memphis City Council approves $2.5M emergency relief effort for residents during govt. shutdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Local leaders are investing even more funds into providing relief for Memphians amid the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

On Tuesday, the Memphis City Council approved a resolution to establish the “Memphis Emergency Meal Provision and Housing Interim Services Loan Fund”—coined the “MEMPHIS Fund”—to provide immediate, local relief to Memphis residents who have been affected by the loss of federal income and benefits.
