Memphis Safe Task Force Captures First-Degree Murder Suspect and Accomplice with Outstanding Warrants

The streets of Memphis are a touch safer today following the apprehension of Kamari West, a 21-year-old suspect charged with first-degree murder, and his acquaintance Mario Metcalf, also 21, who was wanted on multiple charges. The Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF), as reported by the U.S. Marshals Service, executed the arrest on November 4, using the collaborative strength of local, state, and federal law enforcement to bring these individuals to justice.

West, who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Jaden Echols on March 24, was arrested after MSTF agents located his vehicle and subsequently observed him at his residence. In a carefully arranged encounter, officers made their presence known and were prepared to swiftly act; despite an attempt to initially flee, West ultimately surrendered without further incident. According to a statement from the U.S. Marshals, “He did attempt to flee, but once he saw officers, he stopped and was taken into custody without incident.”

During the operation, MSTF officers and agents discovered and confiscated four firearms at the scene. While ensuring the premises were secure, they also encountered Metcalf, who was found to be in possession of multiple outstanding warrants, which included aggravated assault, theft of property, and failure to appear.
