MEMPHIS, Tenn.— An inmate booked in the Shelby County jail has died, marking the third inmate death in just over a week, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) confirms.
SCSO confirmed Friday that Christopher Steele, 41, died about 10 a.m. at Regional One Hospital, where he had been receiving medical treatment since Nov. 1.
His death is under investigation, as is routine with all in-custody deaths.
