Highway patrol aviation unit aids in arrest of alleged drag racers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Two people are behind bars after police say they were spotted racing down a busy Memphis road.

According to the arrest report, on November 5 just after midnight, a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper saw two sports cars, a Chevy Camaro and a Ford Mustang, traveling at a high rate of speed down Getwell Road near Knight Arnold Road. The trooper activated his blue lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicles, but both drivers accelerated, pulling away at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

THP dispatch notified THP aviation unit to track the fleeing vehicles. The aviation unit successfully followed the Camaro and Mustang as they continued south on Getwell Road, crossing into Southaven, Mississippi. The vehicles then turned onto Starlanding Road and eventually pulled into a subdivision, where they parked…
