Auto thefts down 41% in Memphis this year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Car thefts are down more than 40% in Memphis, new data shows, while the number of arrests for those crimes remains low.

Auto thefts have been a growing problem in Memphis over the years, with more than 22,000 cars stolen in 2022 and 2023.

To help tackle the issue, Memphis Police say they’re focusing on hotspot areas and using technology and cameras.
