Mid-South could witness another Northern Lights spectacle Wednesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Get ready, Mid-South! After Tuesday night’s breathtaking display, the Northern Lights could to make another appearance on Wednesday, giving sky gazers another chance to witness the celestial spectacle.

A powerful geomagnetic storm on Tuesday illuminated skies across much of the northern United States, reaching as far south as Mississippi. Action News 5 viewers shared stunning photos of vibrant pink, purple, green, and yellow hues painting the night sky.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G4 “severe” geomagnetic storm watch for Wednesday – the second-strongest level on its five-step scale. This powerful event, stemming from solar flares and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), was responsible for Tuesday’s aurora.
