Hundreds more National Guard headed to Memphis even as judge weighs request for temporary injunction

Hundreds more members of the Tennessee National Guard are expected to arrive in Memphis over the next few days, even as local leaders await a judge’s decision on their petition to temporarily bar the guard from patrolling the city.

Between 140 and 180 members of the Guard were patrolling the streets of Memphis on orders from Gov. Bill Lee, according to Theresa Carlson, a Memphis Police Department spokesperson.

“Over the next few days, we anticipate the total presence will increase to roughly 350,” Carlson wrote in an emailed statement. “These men and women are working in the community, serving as additional eyes and ears to support law enforcement.”…
