MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The federal government may have reopened, but according to Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church Senior Pastor Dr. J. Lawrence Turner, the pain caused by the nation’s longest shutdown is far from over for families in Memphis and Shelby County.
In an interview with Alex Coleman for WREG’s “3 at 3,” Dr. Turner warned that despite the end of the 43-day shutdown, “the crisis is just beginning.” He says the effect on programs like SNAP and local food resources is already hitting homes across the Mid-South.
