MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Volunteers with Feed The Needy started packing Thanksgiving food boxes at 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, working to help families across the Mid-South celebrate the holiday.
The volunteers will work through noon, putting together enough food boxes to help more than 3,000 families.
“Thanksgiving is a time when family comes together, sit at the table, and give thanks for the many, many blessings they’ve had over the years. But this year, a lot of families don’t have that opportunity. And what we’re doing, we’re trying to fill that gap as much as we can, to help those who will be blessed to receive one of these food baskets,” said Eric Brown, vice president at Valero.
“We come together with a lot of different organizations, like the Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s, to box these, put these meals together to feed people across the Mid-South. So these boxes, we have turkey, we have vegetables, we have pie crusts, butter, basically it’s all the things you need to make a great Thanksgiving Day meal, so that you can feed at least a family of four to six and have a great Thanksgiving Day,” Brown said…
