Street named after late civil rights activist Lois DeBerry in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A street in South Memphis now bears the name of late former House Speaker and civil rights activist Lois DeBerry.

DeBerry was the first African-American woman elected to the House of Representatives from the city of Memphis. She was born and raised in South Memphis and was a graduate of Hamilton High School.
