National Guardsman’s gun mishap in downtown Memphis hotel

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police were called to a downtown Memphis hotel early Monday morning after a National Guardsman accidentally discharged his weapon.

According to MPD, officers responded to a shots-fired call at Hotel Indigo just before 8 a.m. after a gun went off on the ninth floor.

The owner of the handgun told officers he was in his room when the gun fell to the floor and discharged one 9mm round.

The bullet hit the ceiling but did not go through the ceiling or any adjoining walls. Police said they searched the room next door and two rooms on the tenth floor, and found no damage or injured parties.
