City council says no to 2% raise for Memphis firefighters

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis City Council did not approve a two percent pay increase for Memphis firefighters on Tuesday.

The decision comes after the Memphis Fire Fighters Association sued the city for breach of contract in July after the council did not include the 2% pay hike in its latest budget.

“My job is to fight for the firefighters and their rights and that body in there gave them the raise, that body decided to take it back, that’s what this is all about,” said Thomas Malone, Pres. Memphis Fire Fighters Association.
