Nine arrested in Memphis copper theft crackdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said they arrested nine suspects during an operation aimed at preventing thieves from stealing copper.

Police said in November, the MPD Pawn, Scrap, & Seizure Unit led a two-week operation called ‘Operation Junkyard Dog’ to disrupt the flow of stolen copper and metal being sold to scrap yards and recyclers.

Officers said that the thieves often target critical infrastructure, causing costly damage and dangerous service interruptions to the community…
