MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – About 80 families staying at a Travelodge hotel in East Memphis were forced to find new accommodations Thursday after the power was shut off around 6 a.m., a day before hotel staff said they expected to receive notice.
“We weren’t supposed to close today… they were supposed to give us time until tomorrow at 3 o’clock,” said Jimmie Adams, a hotel employee.
The hotel had previously partnered with agencies including MIFA, United Way and The Hub to provide housing for people experiencing homelessness. However, the general manager said the hotel has lost those connections and staff needed to maintain the establishment over the past few months.
