Community leaders call for Sheriff Bonner to cut ties with ICE agency

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On Friday, December 12, immigrant community leaders and allies gathered at Memphis First United Methodist Church to present a petition to Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner.

The gathering was held at 11:30 a.m. on N. 2nd Street and will include Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action and Hope (MICAH), Vecindarios901, and the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC).

The community leaders are requesting he end the recently signed 287(g) contract that formalizes the sheriff’s collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)…
