Woman killed in West Memphis drag race, police chase identified

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 61-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle during a drag race and police pursuit in West Memphis was identified Monday afternoon, according to the West Memphis Police Department.

Police say the deceased woman is Yolanda Urdiales of Corpus Christi, Texas.

A man, Amarion Prewitt, was taken into custody at the scene after allegedly hitting Urdiales with his vehicle. He has been charged with first-degree murder and fleeing.

According to the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy was leaving a grocery store when he noticed two cars were drag racing at speeds up to 90 mph. The deputy began trailing behind the suspects and turned on his flashing blue lights…
