Mother speaks after son released from custody due to clerical error

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The mother of a man mistakenly released from the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center at 201 Poplar spoke to ABC24.

Cameron Brooks’ mother, Melvina Anderson, said that her son was cooperating with authorities and should not have been portrayed as being on the run.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said Brooks was accidentally released Tuesday, Dec. 9, because of what it described as a paperwork oversight. Jail officials said staff acted appropriately and lawfully based on the information available at the time…
