County commissioners vote to urge Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert to provide critical financial data

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Board of Commissioners on Monday, Dec. 15, voted 12-0 on a resolution urging Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halpert to provide crucial financial information that it said is necessary to complete its annual audit. Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr. abstained from the vote.

The commission said that after several months of stalled attempts and limited communication, it was forced to draft a resolution in order to get the financial records it needed from the Shelby County Clerk’s office. Without records from Halbert’s office, the county said it could not complete its audit and submit a complete budget.

“Part of completing each [annual comprehensive financial report] is to confirm revenues collected through fiscal year end and a formal reconciliation of all accounts,” the commission’s resolution reads. “… The Board of Commissioners is aware that County Clerk Wanda Halbert … has not yet completed an accounting of all revenue and the required reconciliation for Fiscal Year 2025, ending June 30, 2025.”…
