MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a 2% raise for the Memphis Fire Department, two weeks after a tense discussion over the proposal.
The 8-3 vote with two members abstaining amends the current year’s budget to allocate $1.7 million toward a 2% raise for firefighters, who received a 3% raise along with other city employees this year.
